Mom’s visit

Helloo, I’m back again…

The aim was to update at least every 2 weeks, but I have been a bit preoccupied.

Last week Tuesday my mom came over to Riga to visit me. She would be landing in the evening and sadly I have trainings in the evening, so I couldn’t pick her up from the airport. For her no problem she said ( think she would be happy if I picked her up; she will not say this though). She had the Bolt app (taxi application) and then she only needed my address. I gave her all instructions on how to get inside of the apartment because she would/ could be earlier than me in my apartment.

Last messages were send in the afternoon. Time to take the flight for her and almost time for me to start heading out for training. See you in de evening we said. As soon as my training finished I took my phone, just in case she would call if something was wrong. I checked her flight and saw she had delay of an hour. Ok, then we will be at home around the same time I was thinking. I can go to the physio and do my usual treatments after training, shower and after take my bus home.

“Landed” I received while taking the bus back. Perfect! After she got here in the apartment I went down to meet her in the elevator. Flight went well just the delay didn’t go as planned she said. Oh and you forgot to tell me where I needed to go for the Bolt taxi’s to pick me up she said, I was waiting and waiting but the driver told me he was there…but I didn’t see anyone…Oeps sorry mom. Indeed there is a special pick up point I forgot to mention :(

As she always does she comes bearing gifts…9 out of 10 things I don’t ask for but she will take it anyways. So as usual I got my favorite chocolate from Rousseau (iykyk), then she brought my Ajax shirt because I was hoping RFS would play Ajax here in Riga whilst I was still here, but sadly they will play here in the new years… Then it started…She’s taking one thing after the other out of the hand luggage suitcase like there is no end. Flowers are coming out because the house is empty; she said, motivational quotes to put in my bedroom, 2 more posters, a positive potato, affirmation cards for each day to boost the good mood. Oh and supplies to hang the poster of course hahah. Thanks mam, I joke about it but I really appreciate it!

We catch up some more and I need to eat dinner before I go to sleep. I ask her if she wants to eat as well, because I know she probably ate her last thing this morning…She agrees to eat and we eat together and after call it a day. Time to rest.

Next days we start the morning with a cup of coffee, chat a little and she does a sudoku. After we leave for the Centre to get a some meat pie’s and I’m getting cinnamon rolls. We stroll a bit through the center, through the malls and parks. Discover more places to try some pastries and different types of food in Riga. We both love the pastries too much. One of those days we eat the chicken Yassa (Gambian cuisine) she prepared for us. It’s been a long time since I ate it so it was delicious!

Mom saw there was a Reggae Bar in Riga and would like to go there to enjoy the music a little. Since I have trainings every evening during the week she wanted to go Saturday. We ended going on Thursday after my training because it was no techno evening…wait what…yes they put on their Insta that Friday will be techno evening hahah strange but ok. We went and were basically the only ones there. And guess what? The whole time we were there there was not one reggae song…oeps. The inside looked really nice so that compensated a bit for Mom :)

So basically the whole reason mom came to visit me was to see me play in the flesh…Well that didn’t go as planned…The game before she came I got my 4th yellow card which meant I was suspended the next game. Guess what? That’s the weekend she’s here…Sorry mom. So Saturday was game day for me and the team. Only this time I’m watching from the sidelines together with my mom. We win with a big score so all is well! After we had a boat tour planned at 19h in the Centre. First real touristic thing we would do. We arrive there and we get in the boat. It’s packed. I’m happy mom always wants to be early otherwise we maybe couldn’t even sit together. The ride was 1 hour. It was nice and interesting. Both thought one hour was good.

Sunday we did some shopping which we both love to do. Mom loves to shop for everyone else (rarely something for herself), I on the other hand love to shop for me. “But May your closet is full and how you will get all these clothes and shoes back home in 1 suitcase?” I will manage I said and otherwise I will take 2 suitcases, so I can shop some more because I have space then haha. After we go try strEAT Riga. In the mean time we watch the Gambia play against Tunisia. Sadly they lost in the last minutes. The food though was amazing, we both enjoyed it a lot. We strolled back to the apartment and Sunday was almost over, which meant there is only 1,5 days left.

Monday we go to her favorite place to eat meat pie’s and drink a coffee. Walk around in the park and old town. The evening is fast because I will leave at 17h for training and get back after 23h,eat and than go to sleep. In the mean time mom will get a new tattoo and after walk around in Riga a bit she says. Then it’s already Tuesday…today is her flight back. I have morning and evening training today. She decides to go to morning training with me and takes her suitcase and bag. After we can go together to eat lunch and she will take the taxi for there to the airport. Ok, training should be only 1 hour…and of course today we’re 90+ minutes on the field…clock is ticking. I shower fast and we leave for the Centre to get some lunch. The time has come. We need to say our goodbyes…Taxi is here to take her to the airport. And our week together has passed…Mom leaves with the taxi, I take the bus back home. Get back in my room and see the note with the M&M’s (I mentioned one time that I didn’t eat M&M’s in a long time and since then every day she asks me if I want them; no mom I’m good).

“Love you

Keep on following your dreams. I’m proud of you!

Kisses mom

Keep counting your blessings”
